FAQ

Back-UPS buying questions

What is the difference between Back-UPS and Smart-UPS?
Back-UPS models use standby or line-interactive topology and are designed for workstations, POS, and networking gear. Smart-UPS adds pure sine wave output, network management card slots, and extended runtime options — making it the choice for servers and critical IT. If you’re protecting a server, go Smart-UPS. If you’re protecting desktops, POS, or network switches, Back-UPS Pro is the cost-effective choice.
Can I buy Back-UPS units in bulk for multiple branch offices?
Yes — this is one of our most common requests. Send us the model, quantity per site, and the list of shipping addresses. We quote consolidated pricing with staggered delivery if needed. Bulk battery replacement across dozens of units is also a standard service we provide.
How long do Back-UPS batteries last?
Typical VRLA battery life is 3 to 5 years depending on ambient temperature and discharge frequency. The unit will display a “Replace Battery” indicator when capacity drops below the threshold. We recommend proactive replacement at 3 years in environments above 25°C to avoid unexpected shutdowns.
Do you install Back-UPS units on-site?
Yes. For single-unit desktop deployments it’s usually self-install, but for rack-mount BR models, multi-unit rollouts, or environments where IT policy requires a technician, we provide on-site installation and commissioning across Canada.
Is the Back-UPS Pro BR1500MS suitable for a small server?
It can protect a low-power server (under 900 W) in a pinch, but for servers we recommend the Smart-UPS SMT1500 instead. The SMT adds network card compatibility, longer runtime options, and better power conditioning. The BR1500MS is ideal for workstations and networking equipment.
