Battery for SMT2200

🔋 APC RBC55

The SMT2200 uses the APC RBC55 replacement battery cartridge — two 12V batteries in a factory-wired tray. Hot-swappable on both tower and rack-mount configurations without powering down connected equipment.

Battery life: 3–5 years typical. The SMT2200 draws more current from the battery string than the SMT1500, so thermal management matters even more. Replace proactively at 3 years in warm environments.

SMT2200RM2UC (newer SmartConnect model)? May use RBC105. Send your exact model number and we confirm.

✅ Best for

  • Multi-server racks (2–3 servers under 1980 W total)
  • Core network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls)
  • VoIP and UC systems
  • Virtualization hosts (single-node Hyper-V, ESXi)
  • Branch office IT closets with growth headroom

FAQ

SMT2200 questions

What battery does the APC SMT2200 use?
The SMT2200 uses the APC RBC55 — two 12V batteries in a factory-wired tray. Hot-swappable with no downtime. Newer SmartConnect models (SMT2200RM2UC) may use RBC105. Confirm your exact model number before ordering.
SMT2200 vs SMT3000 — which should I choose?
Both use the same RBC55 battery and share the same physical footprint. The SMT3000 provides 2700 W vs 1980 W on the SMT2200 — more headroom for growth. If your current load is above 1500 W or you plan to add equipment, the SMT3000 is usually worth the incremental cost. If your load stays under 1200 W, the SMT2200 provides longer runtime per watt.
Can the SMT2200 protect a full server rack?
It depends on your total load. The SMT2200 supports up to 1980 W — enough for 2–3 low-power servers plus networking gear. For a densely loaded rack exceeding 2000 W, move to the SMT3000 (2700 W) or the SRT5000 (4500 W, online double-conversion). We can size it based on your equipment list.
Does the SMT2200 come in a rack-mount version?
Yes. The SMT2200RM2U is the factory 2U rack-mount version. It fits standard 19” racks and uses rail kits included in the box. We quote both tower and rack configurations.
How long will the SMT2200 run my servers during a power outage?
At half load (990 W), approximately 18 minutes. At full load (1980 W), approximately 6.5 minutes. This is typically enough for graceful automated shutdown via NMC3 or USB. If you need longer runtime, the SMX2000 or SMX3000 with external battery packs are the better choice.
