APC SMX2000 Smart-UPS X 2000VA — Extended Runtime & Battery Canada

Extended runtime — external battery expansion

APC SMX2000 —
Quote, Battery & Service Canada

The APC Smart-UPS X 2000VA (SMX2000LVNC) delivers 1800 W of pure sine-wave power with external battery expansion capability. The sweet spot between the SMT2200 (no external batteries) and the SMX3000 (higher capacity) — ideal for branch offices and network closets needing 30–60+ minutes of runtime without a generator.

Battery for SMX2000

🔋 APC RBC115 + External Packs

The SMX2000 internal battery uses the APC RBC115 cartridge. Like all Smart-UPS X models, the key advantage is external battery expansion via SMX48RMBP2U (rack, 2U) or SMX120BP (tower) packs.

Runtime with 1 external pack: ~55 minutes at half load (900 W). With 2 packs: ~90 minutes. The SMX2000 draws less current per external pack than the SMX3000, so you get more runtime per pack at the same load percentage.

Why SMX2000 over SMT2200? Same price range, but the SMX2000 accepts external batteries and the SMT2200 does not. If runtime beyond 18 minutes matters, the SMX2000 is always the better choice.

FAQ

SMX2000 questions

SMX2000 vs SMT2200 — which should I choose?
The SMT2200 provides slightly more wattage (1980 W vs 1800 W) but cannot accept external battery packs. The SMX2000 can. If you need more than ~18 minutes of runtime at half load, the SMX2000 with one or more external packs is the better investment — even though it provides slightly less raw capacity. If runtime beyond the internal battery doesn’t matter, the SMT2200 gives you more watts per dollar.
What battery does the SMX2000 use?
The APC RBC115 internally. For extended runtime, add SMX48RMBP2U (rack, 2U each) or SMX120BP (tower) external packs. Each external pack roughly doubles your runtime at the same load.
How many external battery packs can I add to the SMX2000?
Up to 10 SMX48RMBP2U packs. At half load (900 W): 1 pack gives ~55 minutes, 2 packs ~90 minutes, 4 packs ~3 hours. The SMX2000 is more efficient with external packs than the SMX3000 at the same percentage load because it draws less current per battery cycle.
Is the SMX2000 suitable for a telecom cabinet?
Yes — this is one of the most common deployments. The convertible 2U rack form factor fits standard telecom racks, and the external battery expansion means you can hit 60–120+ minute runtime targets typically required by carriers and ISPs. We deploy SMX2000 units in telecom relay cabinets across Canada.
Can I add an NMC3 network management card?
Yes. The SMX2000 has a SmartSlot that accepts the NMC3 (AP9641) for SNMP monitoring, email alerts, remote graceful shutdown, and EcoStruxure IT Expert integration. Essential for remote or unmanned sites. We quote the NMC3 alongside the UPS.
