FAQ

Symmetra lifecycle questions

Is the Symmetra LX still serviceable after end of sale?
Yes. End of sale means APC no longer sells new Symmetra LX units, but battery modules (SYBT5), intelligence modules, and NMC cards remain available. We stock these parts and service Symmetra LX systems across Canada. Many will remain in active service for another 5–10 years with proper maintenance.
Should I replace my Symmetra or keep maintaining it?
It depends on your remaining useful life and total cost of ownership. If your Symmetra is under 10 years old, the batteries, fans, and capacitors are in good condition, and your load hasn’t outgrown the frame, ongoing maintenance is usually more cost-effective. If it’s approaching 15+ years, components become harder to source and a migration to Galaxy VS, VX, or Smart-UPS SRT may be the better investment. We provide a written cost-benefit comparison for your specific unit.
What replaces the Symmetra LX?
For loads under 10 kVA, the Smart-UPS SRT series (online double-conversion) is the direct replacement. For loads above 10 kVA, the Galaxy VS (10–150 kW) provides modular architecture similar to Symmetra with significantly higher efficiency and a smaller footprint.
My Symmetra PX shows an NMC communication error — what happened?
The NMC2 (AP9630/9631) reached end of life in October 2023. If your card firmware is outdated or the card has failed, it must be replaced with the NMC3 (AP9641). This also addresses the critical TLStorm security vulnerabilities (CVE-2022-22806). We carry NMC3 cards in stock for same-day quoting.
Can you service Symmetra systems in government secure facilities?
Yes. We hold active federal contracts and our technicians undergo security clearance processes as required. Many Canadian federal government data centres still run Symmetra PX and LX systems — we service these regularly under standing offer agreements.

Need Symmetra service or a migration plan?

Send your model, serial, and situation. We’ll quote parts, service, or a replacement comparison — whichever makes the most financial sense for your facility.
