Battery for SMT3000

🔋 APC RBC55

The SMT3000 uses the same APC RBC55 as the SMT2200 — two 12V batteries in a factory-wired tray. Hot-swappable on both tower and rack configurations. Same cartridge, higher load — expect slightly shorter runtime per charge cycle than on the SMT2200.

Battery life: 3–5 years. At full 2700 W load, the batteries discharge deeper per outage event, which accelerates wear. Proactive replacement at 3 years is strongly recommended for mission-critical loads.

Need longer runtime? Consider the SMX3000 with external battery packs, or step up to the SRT5000 for true online double-conversion with extended battery enclosures.

FAQ

SMT3000 questions

What battery does the APC SMT3000 use?
The SMT3000 uses the APC RBC55 — the same cartridge as the SMT2200. Two 12V batteries in a factory-wired tray. Hot-swappable with no downtime on both tower and rack configurations.
SMT3000 vs SRT3000 — what is the difference?
The SMT3000 is line-interactive (pure sine wave, <4 ms transfer time). The SRT3000 is true online double-conversion (zero transfer time, continuous voltage conditioning). For sensitive loads like medical imaging or precision manufacturing, the SRT is required. For standard servers and networking, the SMT3000 is the cost-effective choice with excellent protection.
Is 3000 VA enough for my server rack?
The SMT3000 supports up to 2700 W — typically 3–4 low-power servers plus switches and a firewall. Add up the nameplate wattages of all connected equipment and apply a 20% headroom rule. If your total exceeds 2160 W (80% of 2700), step up to the SRT5000 (4500 W) for proper headroom and online protection.
Can I extend the runtime of the SMT3000?
The SMT3000 does not natively support external battery packs. For extended runtime at this capacity level, the SMX3000 (with external SMX48/120 battery packs) or the SRT5000 (with SRT192BP enclosures) are the right choices. We can quote the alternative that matches your runtime requirement.
Does the SMT3000 require a dedicated circuit?
At full load (2700 W / ~25A at 120V), the SMT3000 draws close to the capacity of a standard 20A circuit. A dedicated 20A or 30A circuit is recommended. The input uses a NEMA 5-15P plug by default (15A). For full-load operation, consider the L5-30P input option or hardwired installation.
